Tough-guy Meireles loves nothing better than a full-on battle with a worthy opponent and he has gained praise for his work-rate and skills as an all-round midfielder.

Meireles first came to prominence with Boavista FC in 2003 and was soon picked up by hometown club FC Porto the following season.
